Reflection…

Reflection and multiplication are phenomena that fascinate me. You can never trust your eyes and you cannot be certain if what you see is what there really is. I create labyrinths in which you can lose sight. A brilliant illusion!

Tonie van Marle graduated from the Academy for Art and Industry, AKI, in Enschede, the Netherlands. She also has a degree in English from the University of Amsterdam and an M.A. in Irish Studies from University College Dublin.

Since 2004 Tonie van Marle has been working with "Stichting Facetten", a Dutch foundation combining music with various other art forms. In 2004 three musicians accompanied her exhibition 'Abstract'. In 2005 and 2006 she branched out and participated in "Music in Montmartre", a collage of music by Le Groupe des Six, interspersed by poems by Jean Cocteau that she had translated for this purpose. In 2009 she participated in the "Ondeeltjes/Unparticles" project, organized for outpatients and visitors of a hospital who were presented with classical music, art, poetry and nightwear.

Since 2006 she has regularly been participating in exhibitions organized by the Belgian art collective 'Artikel 27', among others Onderdak/Home" (2006), "In Search of Identity" (2007), "Thirty Somethings" (2008), based on the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, "On the Origin of Humanity" (2009), during Darwin Year and "La Décadence" to celebrate the collective's 10th anniversary.

Since 2005 Tonie van Marle has regularly been exhibiting in the Antichi Palazzi exhibitions organized by Camaver Kunsthaus Int. in Italy.
